The coastal fishery in Sweden is politically prioritized in Sweden since it contributes to the persistence of small harbours and to employment opportunities in coastal communities. However, the coastal fishery has declined substantially during the past decades and many small-scale fishermen have part time occupations in other sectors.
The purpose of this project is to gather statistics to assess the importance of fishing in relation to other occupations of coastal fishers. Further, reasons for coastal fishers for leaving the industry during the last 10 years will be analysed. The project is in cooperation with the Unversity of Copenhagen and the University of Stavanger. Funding is provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The project will be finalised in autumn 2017
